How Contacts Opt In to Callie Messages

Brand: Callie · Operated by Matt Carroll (sole proprietor) · Last updated: August 15, 2026

Callie is an automated household calendar assistant application operated by Matt Carroll. It has no public sign-up form, no web enrollment page, and no way for a stranger to be enrolled. Every recipient is one of four enrolled contacts whom the account owner adds by hand, and only after that person gives explicit verbal consent. Inbound messages from numbers the application does not recognize are silently dropped. This page documents exactly how that consent is collected.

Opt-in method: verbal consent

Before any mobile number is added to the application, the account owner asks the prospective recipient — in person or by phone — whether they consent to receive automated text messages from the Callie application. The number is enrolled only after the person says "yes." No number is ever added without this verbal opt-in.

What each person is told when they opt in

At the point of consent, the account owner states all of the following:

Consent script

"I'm setting up Callie, an automated calendar assistant application that runs our household's wall calendar display. I'd like to enroll your number so the application can text you automated schedule reminders, notify you when a calendar item it is tracking changes, and answer schedule questions you text to it. It will also send you a one-time enrollment confirmation. Message frequency varies: the application sends a handful of notifications per week on its own, and it replies to any message you send it. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply HELP any time for help, or STOP any time to opt out. Our Terms (https://callie.mattcarroll.xyz/terms) and Privacy Policy (https://callie.mattcarroll.xyz/privacy) have the details. Do you agree to receive automated text messages from the Callie application?"

The number is enrolled only after an explicit "yes." On that "yes," the application immediately sends a one-time enrollment confirmation to the number, repeating the program name, "Msg & data rates may apply," and the HELP/STOP instructions. The account owner keeps a written record of each consent (name, mobile number, date, and method). Recipients can reply STOP at any time to opt out, or START to opt back in. Mobile numbers and consent records are never shared or sold — see the Privacy Policy.

Automated messages this number sends

The application sends exactly three kinds of message, each with a named trigger:

Proactive notifications are not sent during quiet hours from 9pm to 7am local time; they are deferred until the quiet period ends. The application never sends marketing, advertising, promotional, or bulk messaging.
